International summer workcamp

Overview
If you want to spend your time in a new palce, meet with many differrent people come from around the world and give their time to support the community in developing country, let’s join in our INTERNATIONA SUMMER WORKCAMP. VVS would love to organize a camp for all the volunteers all over the world who have the same purpose and wishness. The purpose of this summer camp will be to call wildlife protection, environmental preservation for the pure and primitive natural world. Tree planting campaign will be implemented for afforestation as a response action what nature has bestowed upon our own lives.

Itinerary

Day 1 : Arrive into Hanoi city (Noi Bai airport)
This will be the first day you come to Vietnam join in our project. VVS staff will pick you up from Noi Bai airport directly to the accommodation where it will be your home during the time you stay in Vietnam and work in our project. Then you will have rest of the day, if this day still remaining in working time, we will have a short orientation at the homestay for you for all needed procedure for your stay and get involved in project.
Day 2
A short training about lesson preparation will be conducted to you, it’s some transportation policies and how to be safe in the trips. Then, you will have time to visit and say hello to local people, visit the field and staffs who you will work with. The time for this will complete a day early and then you  have time to discover something surrounding you.
From Day 3 to the end of duration
From Day 3, you will be working with  full time support of Vietnamese staff members and will be involved in variety of tasks that will be scheduled for you everyday. You will join in the farm works and help local people plan trees, vegetables and feed the animals. Everything would be great with you and you should do it initiatively, it is very helpful to you to make a friendly way to work with local people, give the best thing for them and you also get the best feeling when join with them.
Furthermore, you will take part in the journey in the jungle to experience  wildlife and , know how to survive in the jungle. It will be wonderful trip with the support of skilled staff who will organize  games and lead you to go through the jungle.
In a good weather day, a fire camping will be organized in the forest with many activities such as sport competitions, music, foods and culture exchange.
During the trips, If you are English native speaker, It is great that you give some English lesson for local people. It will be a  great opportunity for them, especially for local youth, It may be the first time they can speak to Foreigners.
Your Final day
Have a small farewell party to say goodbye to all your new friends, taken your final photos and packed your bag full of souvenirs you’ll travel back to the airport, or off for further adventures elsewhere. The return transfer from your accommodation to Noi Bai airport is not covered within your project fee, VVS will be able to make recommendations and help you arrange a transfer if it’s necessary for you. You should budget approximately US$25 for this trip..

Project
What does the project do?
There are dose of volunteers come from different country around the world have participated in Annual international summer camp of VVS every year. Within the framework of the VVS development projects, volunteer summer camp is always a highlight and is the focal point to attract volunteers worldwide on these activities.
This year summer camp with the theme “Protect nature, save the earth” of VVS will be held in the Northwest of Vietnam for the purpose of calling wildlife protection, environmental preservation for the pure and primitive natural world. Tree planting campaign will be implemented for afforestation as a response action what nature has bestowed upon our own lives.
What’s the project like?
This project is in a fairly in the jungle area of the Northwest of Vietnam. Spending your free time in a jungle, getting  fresh air everyday and participating in wonderful farm work, hiking in forest will be a good experience for you in the trips. Furthermore, fresh fruit, vegetable and animals are available for processing foods. Tasting this kind of foods will be unforgettable memories for you.
Location:
The activities of programs will be implemented in the jungle of the North of Vietnam. With locations are pristine forests, which have not been destroyed and impacted by human to the primitive nature. At the same time, the conservation of rare animals and plants in the Red Book of the nation and the world is campaigned. Come to visit some small villages, we return to the cradle of nature with wild landscape of mountains, deep forests, and wildlife experience and come back to Mother Nature of every human being. It will be the interested chalanges for who want to try the new life and love the nature.
Role of volunteer:
Volunteers play crucial role in this international summer camp. Summer Camp needs the participation of all the volunteers from around the world-those who love nature and spiritual life experience. Joining in a summer camp volunteers will participate in activities to promote the image of nature, the role of nature with our own lives. Participate in practical activities such as afforestation within the program.
Main activities:
With the support of our staff will organize the activites in the games and teamworks skill, it will help participant not only taste the new things but also get the best experience in working, relaxing and making friendships.
The activities and schedule will be set by VVS or the inquiries, suggestion from participants. The plan will be fixed before the trip. All of the activities plans will be sent and let participants know via email.
Requirements:
- The Volunteers aged 16 +.
- Good health, love nature, love to explore
Accomodation
What type of accommodation will I be in?
You will share a room with one to three others in a beautiful home stay or guest house. Accommodations are basic equipment, it will be the good chance for you to get real  culture of minority ethnic life style. Some good day, tents will be set up outside, then participant will stay in the tents and attend to the fire camping at night.
Accommodation facilities
You should budget roughly $80 per week for food. Meal will be supported by the food teams, it will be divided in the orientation days or you sometimes  join in the local family with their daily foods or you will be always warmly welcomed in their small parties.  In some days, the journey will take a whole day, then foods should be prepared before hanh and VVS staff will help you choose which is the best food or where we can buy it for our journeys. Taking part in the journey, it will get much energy from you, so you should make sure that food will suit to you to have good health for the trip.
Some night, if having nice weather, we will offer you to have fire camping outside; it will be very fresh and wonderful time and relaxes. Then, you should prepare a sleeping bag for this program.
Where is the accommodation?
Right on site! No need to walk far or get up any earlier than you absolutely have to.
What to bring
If you are travelling to the project between May and September, please ensure that you bring some short and cool clothes, and some warm clothes should be prepared for some cold night. Although the days are usually bright and sunny, nights and early mornings can get cold. Finally, don’t forget some books and other entertainment for relaxing in the evenings

Vietnam is a multicultural nation with more than 54 ethnic groups, the cross-culture among ethnics makes Vietnam has a rich culture that we can find nowhere worldwide. The Vietnamese culture discovery trip is a fascinating journey that is attracted for anyone to set their feet in Indochina. Homestay is the project that VVS wants to organize with the purpose to develop the culture exchange between Vietnam and other countries around the world. Participating in this project, volunteers will stay in a local family where it has special features of each region in Northern Vietnam. Staying in a family, volunteers will experience the customs, lifestyles of the family, and culture of the countryside that volunteer participating. The program takes place during the year, depending on the characteristics of each place you can choose the suitable time and your purpose for discovery when you arrive in Vietnam.
During the program, volunteer alongside community support activities such as teaching English to improve English skill for local people and local youth in the development of community tourism, to visit and support for English local school but also to be involved in the exchange program of rural culture such as traditional music, traditional fashion … Especially living in the natural environment integrated with the people temperate monsoon climate zone.

Itinerary

From Day 3, you will be working with  full time support of Vietnamese staff members and will be involved in a variety of tasks that will be scheduled for you everyday. You can teach local people some basic English, or participate in the preparation for some events, picnics….Everything would be great for  you and you should do it initiatively, it is very helpful for you to make a friendly way to work with local people, give the best thing for them and you also get the best feeling joining them.
Other travelling activities such as hiking, trekking, swimming of visit the beautiful place will organize everyday following the plan and place you want to travel there.
Your Final day
Have a small farewell party to say goodbye to all your new friends, take your final photos and pack your bag full of souvenirs you’ll travel back to the airport, or off for further adventures elsewhere. Homestay in the North of Vietnam is one of the mainly project of VVS that attract participants around the world. VVS  would like to connect the volunteer through the project to make a difference in the local community. By this way, the beautiful sightseeing ofVietnamcountryside and lovely people will be known all over the world. Then, people can know about the place how it’s beautiful and how the best destination they want to visit. The project will be an opportunity for the participants take a journey to the new land, get the new things abroad.  By a variety of activities mainly focuses on nature and community development, the project will help to protect the environment and pure nature. It is also an opportunity for the participants understand how the nature is important to our life and how we can protect our life by nature conservation.
What’s the project like?
This project is in a fairly rural area in The North of Vietnam. At night you will be able to listen to the sound wildlife on a beautiful highland area or you can join in the culture exchange night with a variety of special music instruments. You also can learn from local people how to make some delicious food and beautiful gifts.
Location
You can choose one of following option for your homestay:
Option 1: Banlac village – cradle culture of Thai People
Ban Lac is a mountainous village where Thai ethnic with 5 family Ha, Lo, So, Mác, Loc lives. Banlac also is a fascinating region where has the most special feature of mountainous area in the Northwest of Vietnam with rich nature. 2km far from Mai Chau town, Ban Lac is situated among the green valley as a natural cradle protecting people here. Characterized culture of Thai people with Xoe – Hoa dance, traditional weaving, and many local festivals are organized every year. Participating in BanLac homestay program, volunteers have the opportunity to interact with specific culture of the Thai people with many different clans, each clan they have a special culture and also learn and experience with  and also learn how and experience with weaving brocade. Besides that, participants have the opportunity to join in  community activities such as campfire, cultural exchange art. With a warmly rustic way of living of people here, it partly mounted people who came Banlac village for the first time to become familiar, many of whom became his friends.
Option 2: Lao Chai – Y Ty Highland.
Pass through the road name “Gate of Heaven” at the top of Nhu Co San mountain, the spiral glide path through the top of towering stone mountains, it seems enough challenge for travelers. Lao Chai Village of Black Ha Nhi People which is far from Lao Cai city 70 km (in Bat Xat district, near Chinese border) appear in dew of Y Ty highland. Overview from the highland, Lao Chai located among the stone mountainous area and grass hills with many houses look like giant mushrooms growing at the side of the mountain at an altitude of 2.660m. Black Ha Nhi People is one of the smallest ethnic inVietnamlive in the fog and cold weather through the year. The people live and integrate with huge mountainous natural.  There are variety of Ha Nhi traditional music  instruments made from nature such as bamboo flute, trump leaves, drum. Participating in Lao Chai homestay, volunteers will stay in the specific minority ethnic ofVietnamwith their customs, cultures that you can find nowhere in other places. Beside the English lesson and culture exchange events, volunteers have time for natural discovery with the majestic and full of poetic scene.  Lao Chai is always interesting and poetic place for those who have come to this land.
Option 3: Giao Xuân village – cradle of South East Red Reiver Culture of Vietnam
The project is based in Xuan Thuy national park, the first Ramsar Site inVietnam, in Giao Thuy distric, Nam Dinh province,Viet Nam. Xuan Thuy national park is one of the most beautiful mangrove forests inSouth East Asia. The site comprises of various habitats including mangroves, wetlands, salt mash, estuaries and beaches with high biodiversity. The national park is luscious green and the home of tropical and migratory birds or Birdlife Red List, such as Black-face spoon bill, wild goose, black coot and eight others which are known to be most threatened with extinction.
The villages around Xuan Thuy national park is about 150 km by road fromHanoihaving many restaurants and cafes as well as cultural activities. Volunteers stay at the Giao Xuan commune, situated only ten minutes rising bicycle from the villages to the national park, fifteen minutes going by bicycle to the home town (Ngo Dong town) of Xuan Thuy. This really is the perfect place to make the most of this diverse country.

The activities and schedule will be set by VVS or the inquiries, suggestions from the participants. The plan will be fixed before the trip . All of the activity plans will be send and let participants know via email.
Project resources and advice
All the things support for activities on the trip will be provided by VVS and local support. Besides, you should prepare something good for you participating in the trip. There are four seasons in the North of Vietnam: Spring, Summer, Autumn, and Winter. The weather is really hot in Summer, cool in Autumn and Spring, and really cold winter. Then when you plan to go toVietnam, take part in the project, you should check the time and weather how it is.

Itinerary

Dates, durations of stay, activities and so on are up to you – we design all our vacations individually, so you can have exactly what you want.
Day 1:Arrival at Hanoi.  Vietnamese volunteers will pick you up to the hotel. You’ll have time to relax and take part in the orientation for participants before a welcome dinner at a good restaurant. Then you have free time at night to take a tour around the Sword (Hoan Kiem) lake and Old quarter and also free to take part in some cultural performances such as Water puppet, folk songs music and so on.
Day 2:Hanoi/Lao Cai. Vietnamese volunteers will take you to exploreVietnam’s capital city with the considerable palaces such as Ho Chi Minh’s Mausoleum,Temple ofLiterature, and Ethnology Museum for an overview ofVietnam’s 54 ethnic groups in anticipation of your trip to Sapa. After lunch, you’ll have time to visit the serene Tran Quoc Pagoda, the oldest in Hanoi, on the banks ofHanoi’s Ho Tay (West)Lake. After that have dinner and board overnight sleeper train at the 9 pm to Lao Cai.
Day 3:Try the Giay ethnic minority’s lifestyle in Sapa. Picked up at Laocai Station early in the morning by our bus. Arrive at Sapa round 8:00 AM; Relax and have breakfast at Hoang Gia hotel. Start trekking at 10h30am  to get to Ta Van village. Enjoy the overall pictures of the villages among terraces. Visit the H’mong living in wooden and bamboo houses. Stay the night in Tavan village at a Dzay family. In the evening, you’ll join some of the locals in the village communal house to listen to folk songs and watch the traditional dancing of the Tay and Red Dzao people on the community’s vernacular musical instruments.
Day4- 5:Preserve natural resources Sapa.  Every morning, plant tree as a contribution to the re-forestation of Ta van Village. Afternoon, trekking to some place such as the waterfall and Cloud Bridge, trekking to Lao Chai village to see the daily life and culture of black H’Mong ethnic group. Evening is cultural exchange, you can teach some simple English sentence for local people! In turn, you have opportunities to experience directly the folk songs and music instruments of ethnic minorities.
Day 6:Help local people to harvest and disseminate experience in producing, processing and storing agricultural products. If having flexible time, you can go fishing and relaxing at the springs near village and enjoying beautiful sightseeing of ancient stone age near Ta van village.
Day 7:Visit to Ta Van School to organize fun games and give presents including books, notebooks and other learning equipments to all very poor students and. Free time in the afternoon; go shopping and visit Ham Rong mountain where you have an overview of Sapa town. Evening you can join in Love market of Sapa Town where you can see varieties of colorful ethnic minorities.
Day 8:Do charity at Tam Duong school 7h00: Have breakfast then go to Tam Duong Market . After that we go to visit the poorest village in Tam Duong (Pape village -Laos minority people). Chatting with the villagers at their house then visit a school, have a talk the children and give some souvenirs! Taking picture with them and back to Tam Duong for lunch. Check out hotel then cycle to visit Tien Son cave (Heaven ‘cave) just discovered after 1979 with so many amazing stalactites. After 1 hour discover the cave, we go back to Sapa by jeep.17h00: leave Sapa for Lao Cai station, have dinner in the restaurant, and then get on the night train, soft sleeper back to Hanoi.5h00 a.m: arriveHanoi, our guide will pick up and drop you off at your hotel. Workcamp ends.

Project
What does the project do?
The hill-tribe groups of Vietnamare a collection of diverse, exotic communities. Despite the natural beauty of their environment they have some of the lowest standards of  living, health and education in the country. Many young people from these communities do not attend school and begin working at a very young age.
VVS organizes workcamp with meaningful program to help local people and bring volunteer opportunity to get unforgettable experience of the real life with totally different cultures and lifestyles of ethnic minorities in the Northern Vietnam by staying and working with the villagers.
Why we need volunteer?
The project is meaningful program for the participants make a different in their way to help the local community and protect the environment. The activities in the project are mainly conducted both Vietnamese and International volunteers in the local area of the North of Vietnam.
All volunteers will cooperate in developing a curriculum, educational games and other activities that suit the individual’s needs. Both teams of volunteers will have a responsibility to teach the communication, and life skills.
Furthermore, there are a large of place should be covered by trees; the tree planting activities will be conducted by volunteer. It will be a opportunity to raise the campaign about protect the environment. Culture exchange day and communication between volunteers and local people will help the minority ethnic people understand about the outside world and help them to improve their life and mind. It will be make a different for them to change their life positively.
Main activities
A variety of activities will be conducted by volunteers in flexible time with 4 hours per day. Other time you may wish to enjoy Sapa and trekking around. You will have time to experience the way of life earning from local people and then give them ideas that can improve their life skills, and bring them more opportunities for the better life in their ethnic minority families.
Special requirement
It is very important that all volunteers be prepared to work with minority ethnic people! Volunteers must be highly motivated and keep in mind that this group of people are the first and most important reason volunteers are asked to work with.
Volunteers must be 18 years or older. This can either be university studies (a degree is not necessary) or relevant working experience.
Participant should have good health to prepare join in the mountainous area.
Donation
The school is very poor at present, then we need a lot of support from volunteers that provide study materials such as pens, books, notebooks, toys, and anything you have that you thing it is good for students or can support them in study. It is very helpful for us if you have any guide book or some materials describe your country, the students can learn about your country and have their knowledge about the outside world.
