Overview 

Would you like to escape from the noise of the city and look for a peaceful place to have a vacation? Travelling abroad to join in the Natural Forest Conservation Project of VVS will be a good choice for you. Getting fresh air, listening to music of the forest to the song of thousand of birds, animals, springs sound in the forest will be a very wonderful experience for you to relax. Furthermore, you will have opportunities to feed  wild animals, play with them in some way, taste real life of wildlife in the tropical forest. All that thing you do will play an important role to protect nature wildlife and forest.

Highlights

•  Taking part in activities at the site of the project and help local officer to build the data of biodiversity of the forest where the volunteer is working on.
•  Helping with wildlife research. Current methods include using automatic sensor cameras, butterfly traps and a bat census.
• Taking part in daily activities such as feeding animals, plan tree in the jungle, and travel into the jungle to check the safety of some animals.
• Taking part in the raising campaign of forest in some activities for local people.
• Assisting in environmental education projects in schools and local communities
• Constructing, maintaining and extending trails within the park
• Working on maintenance of the park’s nursery garden which provides native species of trees to be used in reforestation activities

Itinerary

Day 1 : Arrive into Hanoi city (Noi Bai airport)

This will be the first day you come to Vietnam join in our project. VVS staff will pick you up from Noi Bai airport directly to the accommodation where it will be your home during the time you stay inVietnamand work in our project. Then you will have the rest of the day, if this day still remaining in working time, we will have a short orientation at the Homestay for you for all needed procedure for your stay and get involved in the project.

Day 2

A short training about lesson preparation will be conducted to you, it’s some transportation policies and how to be safe in the trips. Then, you will have time to visit and say hello to local people, visit the field and staffs whom you will work with. The time for this will complete a day early and then you  have time to discover something surrounding you.

From Day 3 to the end of duration

From Day 3, you will be working with  full time support of Vietnamese staff members and will be involved in a variety of tasks that will be scheduled for you everyday. You will join in the farm works and help local staffs plan trees and feed the animals. Everything would be great for you and you should do it initiative, it is very helpful for you to make a friendly way to work with local people, give the best thing for them and you also get the best feeling  joining them.

Furthermore, you will take part in the journey in the jungle to experience  wildlife and know how to survive in the jungle. It will be a wonderful trip with the support of skilled staff  organizing activities lead you to go into the jungle.

Your Final day

Have a small farewell party to say goodbye to all your new friends, take your final photos and pack your bag full of souvenirs you’ll travel back to the airport, or you will be off for further adventures elsewhere. The return transfer from your accommodation to Noi Bai airport is not covered within your project fee, VVS will be able to make recommendations and help you arrange a transfer if you need them to. You should budget approximately US$25 for this trip.

Project

What does the project do?
This project is extremely important in terms of preserving the biodiversity of the cloud forest and protecting local watersheds. The work focuses on protecting existing forests through reforestation, monitoring human activity and its impact, and environmental education. Volunteers can participate in the following activities: forestry program (restoring degraded areas and sustainable wood production), sustainable agriculture, community involvement, research, eco-construction (environmentally-friendly building practices), and environmental education.

What’s the project like?
This project is in a fairly in the jungle area of the Northwest of Vietnam. Spending your free time in a jungle, getting fresh air everyday and participating in wonderful farm work, hiking in the forest will be a good experience for you on the trips. Furthermore, fresh fruit, vegetable and animals are available for processing foods. Tasting this kind of foods will be unforgettable memories for you.

Location: 
The activities of programs will be implemented in the jungle of the North of Vietnam. With locations are pristine forests, which have not been destroyed and impacted by human to the primitive nature. At the same time, the conservation of rare animals and plants in the Red Book of the nation and the world is campaigned. Come to visit some small villages, we return to the cradle of nature with wild landscape of mountains, deep forests, and wildlife experience and come back to Mother Nature of every human being. It will be the interested challenges for who want to try the new life and love the nature.

Role of the volunteer: 
This project is seeking volunteers for its ecological projects for periods of at least one month. It includes: the re-vegetation of hill sides using native plants to reduce erosion and create habitats; promoting the use of sustainable practices; renewable energy development; and environmental education. An interest in ecological sustainability and knowledge of regional plants is helpful but unnecessary. Willing hands and a desire to help restore a damaged biosphere are the most important requirements.

Main activities:
With the support of our staff who will organize  activities for working in the jungle, it will help participants not only taste the new things but also get the best experience in working, relaxing and making friendships.
The activities and schedule will be set by VVS or  inquiries, suggestion from the participants. The plan will be fixed before the trip. All of the activity plans will be sent and let participants know via email.

Accommodation

What type of accommodation will I be in?

You will share a room with one to three others in a beautiful home stay or guest house. Accommodations are basic equipment, it’s  a good chance for you to get a real culture of minority ethnic life style. Some good day, tents will be set up outside, then participants will stay in the tents and attend to the fire camping at night.

Accommodation facilities

You should budget roughly $80 per week for food. Meal will be supported by the food teams, it will be divided in orientation days or you can sometime join in the local family with their daily foods or you will be always warmly welcome in their small parties.  In some days, the journey will take a whole day, then foods should be prepared beforehand and VVS staff will help you choose which is the best food or where to buy for our journeys. Taking part in the journey, it will get much energy from you, so you should make sure that food will suit to you to have a good health for the trip.

Some night, if having nice weather, we will offer you to have fire camping outside; it will be very fresh and wonderful time and relaxes. Then, you should prepare a sleeping bag for this program.

Things to bring from home

If you are travelling to the project between May and September, please ensure that you bring some short and cool clothes, and some warm clothes should be prepared for some cold night. Although the days are usually bright and sunny, nights and early mornings can get cold. Finally, don’t forget some books and other entertainment for relaxing in the evenings

Overview

Have you ever experienced as a farmer in a coastal area with a combination of continual agriculture, forestry and fisheries? VVS has desired an Agriculture – Forestry – Fishery Camp for the purpose of bringing new experiences of the volunteers through  practical activities of program to call for protection of natural environment and build sustainable farming practices for people living in the vicinity of the world’s biosphere –Xuan Thuy National Park.

• Participating in activities to promote images of climate change, protection of the world’s biosphere.
• Joining people for harvesting clams
• Participating in activities of collecting MG snail – a PG species eat  young rice plant, and cause the rice field to disappear very quickly.

Project

This special program is an opportunity for volunteers to share difficulties with the local community and reserve environment in Xuan Thuy national park. Besides, we hope to bring members a meaningful volunteer program combine with ecological tourism, refreshment and cultural exchange.

During the work camp, volunteers would have as many chances as possible to contact with local people, discover their cultures as well as help the community reserves their unique living environment and ecosystem in Xuan Thuy national park. A “culture-exchange day” would be held to promote the understanding within different groups of people and between international volunteers and Vietnamese people.

Throughout the year, various trips are arranged for volunteers. The objectives of the excursions are to be fun but more important to protect ecosystems in Xuan Thuy National Park. The trips include water parks, walks and beach trips or tree plantings in the small islands. Volunteers will go with local Young Union by board to gather waste in water parks and see the beauty of natural ecosystem with a variety of plans and bird species in the National Park.

Location
The site of programs is located adjacent to Xuan Thuy National Park which  is a Mangroves of  Vietnam and the world’s biosphere in Ramsa conventions. Pristine mangrove forests are biodiversity ecosystem with rich vegetation is the abode of migratory birds in winter, and is home to thousands of rare animals in the red book world. Simultaneously with the cultivated cultural characteristics of the people here has become a tradition, which has brought a cultural village characterized by combining agriculture, forestry and fishery.

Role of Volunteer
Volunteers plays an important role in the success of the workcamp. Volunteers will participate in activities to help people in the farm chores, are directly involved in activities within the framework of the workcamp. At the same time volunteers are the source of encouragement for building an  image of nature protection zones around national biosphere.

Requirement

• Health Status: good health, not suffering from diseases like high blood pressure, allergies to insects.
• Spirit: love nature; love to explore, to experience life

Project resources and advice
All  support for activities in the project will be provided by VVS and local support. You just only need to bring all your clothes necessary for you. There are four seasons in the North of Vietnam: Spring, Summer, Autumn, and Winter. The weather is really hot in Summer, cool in Autumn and Spring, and really cold winter. Then when you plan to go to Vietnam take part in the project, you should check the time and weather.
Cameras, laptop will be very helpful for you to record all interesting things and memorable things.  Don’t forget some books and other entertainment for relaxing in the evenings

VVS’s staff will support the volunteer to find the accommodation that best suits your requirements and budget. The guest house, home stay, hotel is available for approximately $80 per week depending upon the holiday seasons; it is really comfortable accommodation with WIFI, TV and all modern conveniences.

Accommodation facilities
The restaurants are available in or near the guesthouse, then you can join in any meal as your inquiries. You should budget roughly $80 per week for food. In some days, the journey will take a whole day, then foods should be prepared before the journey start and VVS staff will help you chose which is the best food or where we can buy it for our journeys. Taking part in the journey, it will get much energy from you, so you should make sure that food will suit to you to have good health for the trip.

Things to bring from home
If you are travelling to the project between May and September please ensure that you bring some short and cool clothes, and some warm clothes should prepare for some cold night. Although the days are usually bright and sunny, nights and early mornings can get cold. Finally, don’t forget some books and other entertainment for relaxing in the evenings.

Right on site! No need to walk farther or get up any earlier than you absolutely have to..
